Views on abilities of large cos to disrupt supply

What do people here think of large cos' ability to disrupt supply by placing huge orders? Should there be regulations around/against it? I can understand the Thailand floods, and also the crypto-currency craze is forgivable. But it doesn't feel right that one dude got support of some super rich dudes and now I can't even buy RAM
