Do we want engineers to care less about users?

In a small startup I'd imagine having an engineer engaging and empathizing with end-users would be important.

Or are they building a product that actively harms users and thus prefers someone that would be fine doing so?

Or is it about engaging less with co-workers.

Or is this just signalling that the poor engineer will be left to their own devices and shouldn't expect support?

I would recommend people avoid companies that say things like this. If they want you to deprioritize people, they're also deprioritizing you.
