I was skeptical one year ago, but I'm more and more concerned that AI is going to take my job, or at least transform it in something less fun. It has already.
Even on HN, every other posts seem to be about LLMs, like if there's no room or need for other CS topics anymore. Also, there's a lot of hype at the moment, with people reacting very emotionally on way or another. I find it hard to see where we're going exactly.
My current impression is that AI will prove useful, will increase developer productivity but not order of magnitude, and only once the tools are mature enough and developers learn to use them properly. But it will not reduce the need for expertise and for people who know their craft. Maybe it's wishful thinking.
