HACKER Q&A

How can reading Hacker News be monetized to provide a basic income?

People here are different from others, so why not monetize that? The current system is set up so that no one gets paid and only the winner takes all. You can spend years learning at your own expense. I think this is completely wrong and if the situation changed, it could help several dozen or even hundreds of unicorns emerge. I have some ideas for a crypto project, curious to hear your ideas

How? With ads?

Well for the first part, no one likes ads, so no one gets paid and that is how the system is set up. For the second part, who do you see as this "winner" who takse all and what are they getting?

If HN were to be monetized then post submissions would go up, quality would drop, the need for moderation would rise and the site would lose it's place as a quality discussion site.
