Would your company/startup pay $1K to $11K a week for a sponsorship ad?

hi hn!

i'm a cs student starting a developer vlog and blog on indie hacking and my journey on youtube and on my website, sharing, comparing and reviewing the tools I use to everyone.

obviously this takes a lot of time for me to do, so I plan to sell sponsorships on my channel and banners on my website and on feeds. i am considering a newsletter if i get time maybe.

while i've been researching and i've seen somewhere that someone is making $8K to $11K a week on sponsorships for a blog with no newsletters, and $5K a month on banners for a game.

these prices are very very expensive, since my audience (developers) HATE ads entirely, which has put me in a dilemma with pricing and has gotten me a bit discouraged for trying to make an income to pay for making videos and my cs degree.

i was considering $600 a week or month for these ads, but when going to companies for even $100 a week when i started, i was told this was "highly expensive" and i seen a company ad on a blog / podcast which was charged for $12K a month.

if you had a company what would you pay a sponsorship for if you had to and if you're a developer would you even mind sponsorship ads at all?

i don't know what i am missing here and still very new to this, so help is appreciated.

thanks!

ines

Yes, but only if I had some basis to expect that the marketing money wasn't being wasted. I'd want to see that the audience being reached was worth the cost, that they aren't going to be upset when they see my ad, that my ad doesn't appear in any places I find objectionable, etc.

I'd be unlikely to make a serious ad buy in a forum that was so new that it couldn't show me numbers unless it was being set up by someone I already knew and trusted.
