Bots or grunt labour in HN comments

Ime increasingly seeing low karma (< 500) random string ID hn users making mildly amusing but basically incoherent comments. They seem designed to elicit feedback and I am now suspecting they're weaponised to raise karma to be useful for some other intent like comment storming later on.

The prevelance of phrases like "low IQ response try harder" makes me think they're scripted.

Is it e.g. time to include something like a Wikipedia audit trail on device signature and source IP so some basic stats on their "point cloud" surface can be seen?

Perhaps. Just downvote, then click on comment date flag and move on with your day. One could email dang but I doubt much information would be disclosed and I highly doubt any stats would ever be added regarding these posts. Any stats added would also be weaponized by the trolls.

Ultimately they handle these things on the backend. If the trolls move to threats or violent speech then email dang with the link and annotate the Subject accordingly.
