I don't have the patience to be an IC. What role would best suit me?

After a brief career in academia I am venturing into industry, the reason being, that I realized that I do not enjoy being a researcher, because it requires a personality that goes at odds with who I am, and it was stressing me out too much. The problem is that while I have a whole lot of technical insight and decent technical skills, I lack the patience to do the meticulous work that is required, and the problem solving aspect does not really excite me enough anymore.

I'd say, what I enjoy doing is planning, learning new technologies, leading technical groups, even pair programming with a more junior colleague. I guess everything technical, as long as I can delegate the more meticulous details to someone else.

So I am wondering what other roles might suit me better, in your opinion?

Sounds like you would enjoy being involved in developing the technical strategy of a company or department, which basically means staying up to date with new trends in technology and planning their adoption in house.
