Would you open-source your successful SaaS?

Have you ever thought about this, or maybe you've gone through something similar? I'd love to hear your experiences.

Let's say you have a successful AI automation SaaS. You already have a good number of customers, but you strongly believe the product is great and could reach even more people.

Open-sourcing the entire product, or even its core features, could be risky. But personally, as an experienced developer who loves open-source, I owe a lot to the open-source community. I've always dreamed of creating something cool and sharing it openly.

In the best-case scenario, many more people would learn about the app, talented developers might join, and ultimately, the product would get much better. Monetization could shift to cloud services.

On the other hand, there's a real risk someone could fork the project and a competitor could take over your market.

I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts on this!

Amazon can offer it as a cloud service because it's allowed in the licence and they may not pay you a cent because it's allowed in the licence. If you are happy with that, it's fine. Otherwise you may try with AGPL or a source available licence.
