Still safe to use US tech products?

Hi all, I'm a consultant in the non-profit space, and I've had several conversations this week with clients who are concerned about being targeted by the Trump administration.

Each discussed the risk of backdoors in US software and the possibility of seizure of data from Microsoft and Google.

The organisational profile is typically European, engaged in human rights and climate work. I can think of lots of other entities this might apply to though, up to and including governments that considered themselves US partners until last week.

Leaving aside the validity of the concerns -- I think it's a fairly neutral thing to say that the situation is "dynamic" -- how risky is it for entities that perceive a threat from the current administration to use US tech? What might alternatives look like, given limited capacity at their end to self-host.

I don't think the risk has changed, but since you ask for alternatives, your European customers might feel more comfortable with the ones listed here: https://european-alternatives.eu/alternatives-to

US Tech companies products are not safe long before Trump. Do yourself a favor and move your organizational data to an European provider.
