ML/Data Science Job from Computational Social Science PhD?

I'm currently in the first year of my 4yr salaried PhD in computational socical science. I'm wondering if there is anyone out there on HN who've made the transition from quant social sciences themselves to industry and if you have any recommendations for how to make the shift. Other input is also much appreciated.
