I'm currently a Data Engineer working mostly with Microsoft Fabric (their newish data/analytics platform). I do a good bit of Python, Sql, PySpark, etc, but don't get to touch Terraform/K8/etc and probably will not be able to change this anytime soon. I want to make the jump to more an infra role, but I know my current company won't have any openings soon for a position like this, so I will have to change companies which makes the switch harder.
My current plan is to get the CKA (certified K8 admin), an Azure cert or two as I'm already familiar with their offerings, build up and tear down infra with TF, and build up my networking knowledge.
I'm wondering if anyone has any further advice on what I should do to actually get an interview when the time comes? I foresee the hardest part will be getting past the initial screening due to lack of exp in infra specifically, so any advice on how to stand out? Thanks!
You might think there was quite a lot of depth to learn in data.. wait till you see infra. Modern cloud environments also hide a lot of the technical stuff away so a basic course in understanding networking (TCP/IP, DNS, proxies, caching and so on) may be a good starting place.
