How big is the impact of Deepseek in shifting AI landscape?

I've seen these types of shocks in the past. What usually happens is that people run around as if the end of the world is coming, but over time, it evens out. There's no doubt that Deepseek has made a significant impact on the AI landscape, but I have no doubt that other AI players will come back, catch up, and surpass what Deepseek has accomplished. I'm no expert, but I've been an avid user of the different LLMs. Deepseek's R1 is impressive in its capabilities, and the cost to run it.

The biggest impact going forward will be the advantages of cost. AI is going to be so affordable that it will creep into many more areas of society. The idea that AI will be part of everyone's lives has accelerated. Also, it's now imperative for the US not to be left behind, so we'll see the Trump administration become more involved in advancing what the private industry is doing. Whatever safety constraints were being put in place will now be gone. Helping how fast AI will evolve.

I think it had been assumed that over time, costs would come down. I doubt people thought it would happen this quickly.
