How to get out of front end development

I have been doing full stack / fronted for almost 5 years now and am really burned out as well as not interested. I cannot remember the last time I worked on an interesting problem at work and I desperately want to make a change.

The job market is not good now so besides working on side projects that are interesting to me and up leveling my skills, what should I be doing to get out of this?

There's several directions you could take.

I was a full stack engineer most of the 2010s then took some time off to pursue my own venture. Now I'm working as a backend engineer. It's a nice change.

If you have any interest in app development, you could pick up Swift or Scala (or whatever is used for Android development) and move in that direction. Conversely, Mac/Windows/Linux desktop apps is an option.

You might look at changing into more infrastructure roles.
