Perspectives on Charitable Giving

Hi HN,

Let's talk charity, shall we? Being involved with the nonprofit sector for many years now, I am building a tool that helps nonprofits analyze, predict and improve their social media presence. Why social media? Well, the new generation(s) of donors use SM to get involved with the causes they care for. Organizations utilizing SM effectively are the ones to succeed.

I would highly appreciate your perspectives on charitable giving. Here are some questions to get the conversation started:

What is your overall perception of the nonprofit sector?

Have you ever given to a charity? If so, what motivated you to do so?

Do you support any charities on a regular basis? What keeps you committed to the charities you support?

For those who have had a negative experience with charitable giving: what has frustrated you? What could the charity have done differently to improve your experience?

For those who have never supported a charitable cause: Are there some specific factors or concerns that hold you back from doing so?

I'm excited to hear your stories and appreciate your feedback.

Thank you!

Overall perception: there are a lot of inefficient and ineffective charities, you have to be careful about who you give to if you want to have an impact

Ever given? Yes, I give through a regular deduction from payroll (I'm a giving what you can pledgee)

What keeps me committed? Knowing that I'm having an impact. I give mostly to GiveDirectly and find it almost impossible to read about the recipients and not want to give more: https://live.givedirectly.org/
