Best SaaS to use to send and receive SMS USA/worldwide?

It's that time again! What's the latest and greatest for sending and receiving SMS from code?I want to purchase a number and have people text it, then via webhook I'll respond back to that customers number.I used Twilio for this in the past. Are there are newer better services?

EZ Texting is your best bet. While I use it for mass texting, it offers developer-centric API and webhook support to respond to incoming texts faster.
I shopped around a lot…SimpleTexting, SlickText, Twilio, etc.…EZ Texting was the last option I looked at, and what sold me was its extensive feature suite, absolute ease of use, and customer support folks.

At something like a cent per message, both ways, SMS is annoyingly expensive for any application with a lot of back and forth traffic - hence, chatbot-over-SMS solutions are rare, and auth providers charge extra for SMS based verifications. Does this create a niche opportunity for dumbphones where in-network SMS is cheaper to provide a light-llm-over-ssm service?
