Best SaaS to use to send and receive SMS USA/worldwide?

It's that time again! What's the latest and greatest for sending and receiving SMS from code?

I want to purchase a number and have people text it, then via webhook I'll respond back to that customers number.

I used Twilio for this in the past. Are there are newer better services?

EZ Texting is your best bet. While I use it for mass texting, it offers developer-centric API and webhook support to respond to incoming texts faster.

I shopped around a lot…SimpleTexting, SlickText, Twilio, etc.…EZ Texting was the last option I looked at, and what sold me was its extensive feature suite, absolute ease of use, and customer support folks.

At something like a cent per message, both ways, SMS is annoyingly expensive for any application with a lot of back and forth traffic - hence, chatbot-over-SMS solutions are rare, and auth providers charge extra for SMS based verifications. Does this create a niche opportunity for dumbphones where in-network SMS is cheaper to provide a light-llm-over-ssm service?
