Turn off automated Time Machine backups for the sake of SSD health?

In particular, I am worried about the local snapshots that it makes.

It looks like, officially, you need to disable automatic backups to disable local snapshots: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102154

Of course if you make sure your Time Machine disk is always available, you should never have local snapshots. I realize this is not always possible, especially for a laptop.

I wasn’t able to find anything fruitful as far as terminal commands or the like to disable local snapshots while retaining automatic backup function, but as others have said, the snapshots aren’t going to kill your SSD noticeably faster.

I don't think you need to be worried. I had HDDs die or get damaged and have yet to see an SSD "wear out"

With modern MLC SSD you can overwrite the entire drive more than 3000 times without a problem. I wouldn't worry.
