I have been working in the IT industry within the finance domain for over 15 years, but I've reached a point where I feel disillusioned with the desk job and office politics. I am keen to pursue a more meaningful career, and the aquaculture industry has captured my interest.
My plan is to make a transition from the IT industry to aquaculture within the next 2-5 years. During this time, I want to equip myself with a comprehensive understanding of the aquaculture industry, its intricacies, and best practices. My goal is to gain enough knowledge and expertise so that when I eventually leave the IT sector in about 2 years, I can confidently start a venture in aquaculture, earn a livelihood, and build a successful business thereafter.
I would greatly appreciate any advice and guidance from the Hacker News community on how to best prepare for this career transition. What resources should I explore to build a strong foundation in aquaculture? Are there any specific online courses, books, or training programs you would recommend? Additionally, I'm curious to know about potential challenges that I might face in this journey and how to overcome them.
I'm sure many people of HN community must have made their transitions to other fields in their mid-life. Please provide your invaluable insights.
Thanks
It's not all that surprising but nonetheless important to realize that you can do all sorts of jobs with no experience as long as you are pretty tolerant about others having no experience, but.. The likelihood that at least one person's lack of experience dooms the whole project is substantial, perhaps overwhelming all odds of success.
So I would recommend not settling for just any in to an industry. Look for what you can learn and prove you know and an environment that tests you on it and will test the others you will depend on.
