What should I do during summer break?

University summer break just started for me - any recommendations on what to do? I'm interested in everything - computer related, electronics related, biology related, sports related.... anything. I just don't want to waste these months doing nothing :)

Reconnect with friends as much as possible. Do dumb fun things together.

In a couple years people will start coupling, nesting, having kids. You’ll still see them a couple times a year but it won’t be the same.

Now is the time to build life long bonds.

The worst thing that you can do is to do things that have no meaning. That is, when you look back, will you be proud/happy about what you did, or will you even be able to pick out anything specific that you did?

If you do things with friends, snap a few pictures.

If you binge-watch a tv show, watch it with someone else and then discuss it later. Then it becomes part of a relationship, not just empty entertainment.

If you do sports/exercise, do it with a goal in mind.

If you write code, write something that you can share with others, either by making it open source (or contributing to an open source project) or by making the results available to others (and thereby creating a "portfolio" project).

Whatever you do, make it memorable. It doesn't have to be big and impressive, it just has to have some meaning to you.

If you like C++ and are interested in helping to create at MIT-licensed webserver library, then hit me up. That's my latest project! :)

> build a little farm (2 or three small and different plants) with an automatic irrigation system and sensors that measure stuff ... something like https://sensebox.de/en/ ... combines bio, code and electronics =]

> connect with some re- & upcycling project and find out what they do or need. maybe you can build some small thingy with and/or for them

> talk to a lot of people to gain perspective on how people in your environment are adapting to whatever they think they are adapting to

> find passionate hobbyists and tinkerers in your area

> skateboarding does wonders to your brain & body within weeks!

You have 10 months in your life a year dedicated to learning. Please dedicate the remaining two to something else. You would benefit the most from going hiking, tours, programs, camping, parties, concerts, movie nights, you name it - and meet a lot of other people. There is no aim - but if you are lucky, accidental regular meetings will bring you life long friends and memories.

Enjoy life and make friends.

If you really love some particular topic or technology, try to build a small project in it. If it is tech related, try putting it up on a public facing git repo for others to see.

Do whatever you think you should. Everyone here is going to have their own regrets and ideals, all of which have no bearing on your life.
