Any reason for security researchers to use Open/FreeBSD?

I once read from a blog of a top notch professional security researcher in 360 that some prefer to use BSD. I know that BSD is known for this but I'm wondering, for any security professional here, what's your opinion?

Not unless your security research is in BSD itself. Otherwise I don&rsquo;t see much point in using it unless you especially like it.I don&rsquo;t know what kind of security research you do but personally I use lots of OS&rsquo;s in virtual machines.
