I understand that there is a possibility of voting fraud and the incumbent administration has the right to ask for investigation. However, given the history of reality distortion, it's hard to grant that benefit of doubt innocently. Doing so innocently feels like walking into the exploitative trap.
In this post-truth world, are democracies doomed and susceptible to larger than life reality distortion? Is it the goodness and innocence of the people being taken for a ride? How should democracies be engineered to deal with large scale reality distortion?
In some states a recount can be request if the result is very close. This is a feature and we cannot complain when a candidate uses this legal right.
Likewise, if a candidate alleges fraud there is a legal process and the relevant courts will assess the evidence.
Of course we can argue that Trump may be making unfounded allegations and that he is obstructing but we need to let the process plays out before judging if there is a problem with the American democratic process. So far it seems quite robust in dealing with disagreements.
We are not in a post-truth world on this matter. Evidence and facts, not allegations, will be used.
