How to Build a Prototype Phone?

Long time listener first time caller.I am at the research stage of trying to build a smartphone that I can install my own OS builds onto. There seems to be a dearth of information on how to go about doing this after doing some preliminary searches.What I have found so far is that for hardware I should look to Shenzen, but I don't know anyone there.If you have any tips regarding software I am also open to advice.I am aware of the Everestest task that lays before me. I just want to connect with those who have experience or tips.
