What password manager do you use?

Context:

I used to use LastPass, but I didn't like their UX, wasn't happy about the LogMeIn acquisition... so I moved to Dashlane.

My subscription expires soon and I had some issues with the app (mainly poor iOS/Safari support, being resource-heavy...) so I'm considering switching. Yes, I know that many of these issues are due to Apple's way of handling third-party password managers.

Almost all of my devices are Apple or PCs with Linux.

So:

1. I'm a Firefox & Safari user (use Chrome only for web dev and work). 2. I'm looking for something with good cross-platform support, decent UX. 3. I don't think that price would make a difference, but if I had two similar options, I'd pick an open source one, or one that is supported by a privacy aware org. (I tried Mozilla's Lockwise as soon as it became available)

What do you use and why?

1Password[1] checks all or most of your boxes, I think.

There is an application for most platforms[2], and the Linux Development Preview just enabled write mode[3], so it should work fine — I prefer the CLI myself. If it does not work for you, there is always the browser extension version, 1Password X.

While I would prefer to use Bitwarden because it is open source and I can self-host it myself, the flexibility of 1Password is what makes it a win in my book.

I am building a privacy-focused company and 1Password is the only company from the USA that we use, simply because of how much more flexible it is than Bitwarden and the other options. Although, I last tested Bitwarden years ago, so things may have changed — keep that in mind. I should give them a try again.

At the end of the day, most options are either free or offer a trial period, so the best thing you can do is try them out and compare to see which one fit your use case the best. My use case is not the same as yours, so my needs are different — and the same go for other people in this thread, most likely.

Enpass.io with the Enpass Chrome extension and the Android app.

Data is stored on my Google Drive, for syncing across multiple devices.

KeepassXC. It's open source, multi platform including desktop and mobile, and I don't have to trust a third party with my passwords... I also can use whatever method I choose to sync the encrypted file amongst devices. Finally, it's free, but that's the least important reason.

Bitwarden seems to check all the options. Not sure about the UX - it really depends on personal preferences, but I like it. You can host it yourself or pay for the service. (There are also other open, competing backend implementations)
