I'm in the process of launching a startup with my partner who is solely focused on the artistic/creative aspects of the business. I'd be responsible for the operational aspects of the business including managing the books.
I've also been planning an overseas move where minor variations in the timeline have drastic tax implications. I really enjoy and engaged with researching tax laws because it feels like "hacking" around a set of defined rules much like software systems.
Are there bootcamps for accounting? Would it be worthwhile to pursue an evening degree? Are there programs that is distant-learning centric?
Formally, accounting is a profession with educational standards, certifications, and continuing education. In the US, that's typically five years of formal education to qualify to take the CPA exam (certified public accountant).
Honestly, this is something worth out-sourcing to an expert. If spending money on an accountant is problematic, then the business is under-capitalized (that's accounting 101 :)
Good luck.
