Books or blogs about hiring your first sales team members?

Hi HN,

I am gearing up to hire our first sales reps after reaching 30k/MRR (founders only) for our saas. I am a bit lost on how to hire and pay these reps.

Are there any books or blogs that were helpful while building your first sales team?

Transitional Average $199/mo/office

thanks!

What is are the rationales for hiring sales reps? Would it be easier for one or more of the founders to continue to do sales and hire people to fill the other rolls of the founder(s)? For example, if the founders are mostly engaged in engineering, then hire engineer(s) to free up the founder(s) for sales.

To me 30k/MRR shows the founders have some sales ability. But it's not enough money that it looks profitable for a sales rep. A 20% commission is only $6k a month if the sales rep doubled sales and a good salary would be half of existing MRR.

The motivation for the question shows that getting the right hire would be hard even if there was enough money coming in due to the founder's unfamiliarity. To me, it sounds like it might be a distraction with a low probability of success at this time. Good luck.
